Every fruit tree needs a dormant season pruning to encourage healthy new growth. You’ll leave this workshop knowing what important pruning basics needs to be done so you can prune and be fearless with your own trees.
In this workshop, Master Gardener Michael Johnson will teach you the all-important How and What of pruning. It’s obvious that dead or diseased limbs need to go. But there’s much, much more. You’ll get all kinds of tips including pruning for more sunlight, the why of removing crossed branches, optimum branch angles, avoiding “stubs”, angle of cut, etc. There will also be tips for irrigation, fertilizer, dormant spraying, and more.
Other: Bring pruners and loppers if you have them; Michael will teach you how to sharpen them. Bring camera/take photos. Dress for the weather (rain or shine).
