Outdoor Art Exhibition

LandMark Nature Tour at Bear Creek Greenbelt Park

Join us on Friday, July 23rd from 5:30-6:30PM for a free nature tour at Bear Creek Greenbelt Park, 2800 S Estes St, Lakewood, CO 80227, at the parking lot. For this tour, Lakewood's Park Ranger Naturalist Lindsay Gillis will show us the amazing plant species that grow at the park as we explore artwork created by local artists Nicole Banowetz, Tiffany Matheson, and Jaime Molina for LandMark, an outdoor art exhibit in Lakwood parks. We also invite you to stay after the nature tour for a creative artmaking session with art educator Anna Kaye. Please bring your artmaking tools for nature journaling, sketching, and/or photography.

Nicole Banowetz is a sculptor who makes sewn inflatable sculptures and delicate assembled forms. She graduated from Colorado State University in 2004 with a BFA in sculpture. Nicole’s work is inspired by the natural world. She addresses human qualities while using the imagery she finds in the animal, plant, mineral, and bacterial worlds. She has made made installations inspired by bacteria, parasitic fungus, viruses, radiolaria, rotifers, horses, and rhinos. All these forms she recreates in soft inflatable sculptures, which she designs and sews on her sewing machine, sometimes adding illumination from within so that the forms glow at night, and other times adding delicate sculpted porcelain forms which balance within or on top of the inflatable. Tiffany Matheson is a mixed and multimedia artist native to and working in Denver, CO who specializes in sculpture, installation, performance and public art. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology with Studies in Sculpture from CU Denver, and has experience with mold making and casting, woodworking, welding, textiles, acrylic manipulation, electronics, music, written word, and more. While her work varies greatly, she is inspired by light, texture, sound, color, nature, the botanical world, and outer space. Her work is often based on geometry and mathematics, with emphasis given to precision and attention to detail. For more information visit https://www.tiffanymatheson.com

Jaime Molina is a painter and sculpture who is known for using narratives that loosely play on our existence and that sometimes portray characters based on his family and friends. Molina creates stunning mixed-media paintings, sculptures, and murals in his unique, recognizable style. Many of his works display a folk art influence, with a juxtaposition between earth tones and occasional bright accents of color. You can find his large-scale works around Colorado, such as a 40 foot totem pole titled La Veleta/Weathervane at 6th Avenue and Federal Blvd and his mural in collaboration with Pedro Barrios at 5th and Broadway.
