Children & Family Ministries
The one-way children’s parade with trick or treating is a church-sponsored Halloween event on the front lawn of Birmingham First UMC, along-side our Pumpkin Patch. We will also host a storybook time, a hotdog Halloweenie Roast, and movies on the lawn Saturday, October 24, 2020. A rainout make-up plan is for Sunday, Oct 25 if necessary.
This year we ask volunteers to dress up in kid friendly costumes, and no decorating is required! We want to create a safe and inviting trick or treating environment for all participants! Everyone is asked to wear a PPE mask.
We need volunteers to bring candy in their own bowl & pass it out from chair pods that will be set up 8-feet apart on the lawn, several feet from the sidewalk. We will provide you gloves to wear when passing out candy. Please plan on candy for a minimum of 200 children. We request you provide a nut-free option for children with allergies.
We also need volunteers who like to read storybooks to children, grill & serve hotdogs, pop popcorn to serve during movie times, and a few chaperons during the movies.
The event provides a safe and family-friendly environment for trick-or-treaters and the children of our church and community. Last year was so much fun that we hope you can all join us again this year! There will be a prize for "Best Costume"!
Dressing up is encouraged, but optional. We ask that costumes be creative (please keep the scary/creepiness factor very kid-friendly as this event is for all ages of children, from the very young to the young at heart. No scary masks, no weapons, no gore.) For inspiration, Pinterest has some great ideas!
