Calling All Riverside District Leaders!
Hi! Thank you for your interest in volunteering to help out with our upcoming IOLS Training Weekend!
This is a one day, one night event taking place on 4/17-4/18 at Camp Chance in Cocoa. We are in process of firming up details for arrival/start times, and departure/end times. Staff may have the option of camping Friday night as well to allow time for set up and organization. But, for now, we need to get Leaders on board to staff the event in order to hold the event!
We are looking for trained and reliable Leaders to help staff this event, and/or help with subject training. You can sign up for a specific staff position OR as a trainer for 1 or more subjects. You can also sign up to serve in a position AND teach a subject (or subjects). We need all the help we can get but, we understand that everyone is busy. If you can only come for an hour or two to teach, we would be glad to have you. If you can come for the whole training event, well that is just icing on our cake!
All Staff will receive an awesome official Riverside District IOLS Patch with a 2021 segment. Each year that you Staff, you will receive the yearly segment. If you serve as Scoutmaster or SPL, you will receive a special star segment for those positions as well. How cool is that?
If you have not taken IOLS, you can still staff the event and/or teach a subject while earning credit for IOLS. In order to get the full credit, you must be present for the whole weekend and attend each class (other than any you are teaching of course).
Please see below for outline of Course Positions and Course Subjects. We are planning to run this IOLS training (and future IOLS training courses) very similar to the way NYLT and Wood Badge are structured: using the Patrol Method.
Participants are required to stay overnight as part of the course and there are 10 subjects they will need to complete. Participants will work in Patrols in this hands-on course which will provide them with practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the Outdoor Scouting Program. Upon completion, these Adult Leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills reuired to earn the First Class Rank.
PLEASE NOTE: THE TIMES LISTED FOR EACH POSITION ARE NOT ACCURATE. IF YOU ARE TEACHING ONLY, YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED A TIME. IF YOU ARE STAFF, PLEASE PLAN ON BEING THERE FROM SAT MORNING TO SUN MORNING. FRIDAY NIGHT CAMPING IS AVAILABLE FOR STAFF AS WELL TO GET SET UP AND ORGANIZED EARLY.
