NVTRP New Volunteer Training
Thank you for signing up for a Volunteer Intro Training at NVTRP!
Please note: This training is for volunteers to assist with our therapeutic riding or hippotherapy sessions and daily barn shifts. Volunteers will be signing up to assist with our 14-week Spring session that begins March 1, 2020. Please plan to arrive to the training 10 minutes early to go over paperwork.
This training will cover:
o An introduction to NVTRP
o Our amazing horses
o Working with people with disabilities
o Rider mounting/dismounting
o Safety issues
o Scheduling - Come with an idea of what days you can volunteer!

What to Bring:
Complete the new volunteer forms found on the volunteer page of our website. Bring them with you to the training. If you are under 18, make sure you have all parent/guardian signatures.
A start up fee of $25 is due at the Volunteer Training. This helps to cover our administrative costs, training, background checks and name tag. Checks may be made out to NVTRP.
Please dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes as the training is outdoors.
o All volunteers must be at least 14 years of age (no horse experience necessary)
o Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian upon arrival to make sure all paperwork signatures are completed. (If parents plan to stay for the duration of the training, they are required to sign a liability release.)
o Volunteer must complete 2020 New Volunteer Paperwork (for insurance reasons we cannot allow prospective volunteers to tour the property without completed paperwork, including parent/guardian signatures if under 18)
o Commitment to the same weekly shift for an entire session. Shifts are an average of 2-4 hours depending on lesson schedule.
o All volunteers 18 years of age or older will be required to complete a background check.
o Should be able to walk and/or jog short distances throughout a 45 minute lesson
o Arrive promptly for your assigned lesson time! If subbing for a lesson, arrive 15 minutes before the lesson start time.
o Be able to work with minimal supervision.
o Be willing to work within NVTRP guidelines of horsemanship.
