Middle School Families

MS - 6th Grade Outdoor Ed & Handicrafts Class (Spring Trimester) 2022-2023

We are excited to continue this parent-led 6th grade enrichment class for the Spring trimester! Our 6th Grade Outdoor Education & Handicrafts Class will be held on Mondays in the Spring Trimester, from 1:40 - 2:45pm (instruction should end at 2:40pm, and parent-teachers will lead the students to pack for and head to dismissal).

Outdoor education and handicrafts are an important part of a Charlotte Mason education as we seek to teach and grow the "whole child" in seeing the value of God's creation and our role as stewards over it, and in doing / making / building with our hands, as image-bearers of our Creator!

Mrs. Faile will be coordinating this class. Please consider signing up to co-lead a class - along with your spouse or another Redeemer School parent!

In the comment box, please indicate an outdoor education or handicraft topic you are interested in leading, and a 1st and 2nd choice on dates that work for you! Mrs. Faile will provide confirmation of schedule and topic assignments by early February. If materials need to be purchased by the school, she will also plan/confirm that with you.

Here are topics we have thought of, but we are open to your ideas as well!

  • Hiking / Orienteering - compass skills
  • Hiking / Orienteering - map skills
  • Tree Study(We have a “Trees of Redeemer School” publication that can be used)
  • Study of a flowering plant on campus
  • Study of a non-flowering plant on campus
  • Bird identification and/or care
  • Feather Study
  • Nest Making
  • Soil and roots examination
  • Spring seeds
  • Gardening (with a specific focus in mind of your choice)
  • Calligraphy
  • Crochet / Knitting
  • Cross-stitch / Embroidery
  • Leather tooling
  • Pottery / ceramics
  • Soapmaking
  • Origami / Paper Sloyd
  • Whittling / woodworking

Most of these classes should occur on the Redeemer School campus. If your idea will require an off-campus field trip, a detailed request (including location, cost if any, and time needed) should be submitted by December 1st, for Mrs. Faile's consideration.
