As we get ready for the Smithsonian Water/Ways exhibit held at Cañon School, 34630 S. School Loop Rd, Black Canyon City (map) from December 14, 2019 through January 26, 2020, we wish to develop a schedule for volunteers to handle the registration and exhibit monitor duties. We are contacting organizations and individuals that expressed a desire to provide personnel during the exhibit. Smithsonian has provided a Docent Handbook; we’ll develop one for our local Agua Fria Watershed exhibit.
For each shift, we need three volunteers to start ½ hour before the exhibit opens. The shift will end shortly after closing not be later than ½ hour after the exhibit closes. One of those volunteers will be a BCHP volunteer staff person; the other two may be anyone with the time and desire to help. Having three individuals scheduled per shift allows the volunteers to rotate for tasks and breaks.
The volunteer positions needed for each shift during the Open to Public hours:
- One (1) person at school entrance door to have the people register and to direct them to the exhibit (just a short way down the hall with lots of directional signs.
- Two (2)people in the exhibit to answer questions and keep an eye on things.
Most people will self-guide themselves. Schools and groups over 15 will need to submit applications before their visit so we are prepared; we think most group will opt for a self-guided tour that would occur outside of the Open to Public hours; we’ll ask for volunteers for those tours on a case-by-case basis.
Thank you for considering this request and hope you are willing and able to volunteer.
