Every Wednesday in January we will be learning vital engineering skills and creating advanced robots with our newfound knowledge. This isn't some basic engineering class... get ready to learn how to utilize capacitive touch, use servos to make a robot work, and 3D print amazing creations. Not only that, but students get to take their creations home!
These sessions are perfect for 4-7h grade students and are taught by the award-winning 19-year-old STEAM entrepreneur, author, inventor, and educator Danielle Boyer who has invented four robots, three for a multi-billion dollar company.
Week One: Robot Basics (1/15/20)
Learn how to read a basic electrical diagram and design your own circuit to keep. Understand what different electrical components are and how they work. This will be the foundation for the rest of the class and will come in handy in a future engineering career and even in school projects.
Week Two: Robot 1 (1/22/20)
Design a robot with the Adafruit Circuit Playground Express, capacitive touch with copper tape, and micro servos. Learn how to utilize capacitive touch to create a unique design to the other students and learn how to program it to make sounds and light up. This robot will also act as a lesson in animatronics as we will be making a stuffed animal realistically move with our robot parts.
Week Three: Robot 2 (1/29/20)
Design a robot with one household item and make it work with previous skills learned in electrical and mechanical engineering. Students will be utilizing basic engineering skills to create a funky robot that runs around. This is an advanced lesson that really solidifies the engineering design process and encourages creative thinking that is vital in an engineering degree.
Week Four: Robot 3 (2/5/20)
Utilize 3D printed pieces to design an unconventional robot chassis that basic electronics could work on. Utilize problem-solving skills to create a working robot, both mechanically and electronically.
Price: $170 dollars. This is approximately $42 dollars per class, which is extremely affordable given that students will be utilizing expensive equipment like the Adafruit Circuit Playground Express and will be taking all of their robotics creations home. Please make the payment digitally before the first day of class on the 6th. PayPal at 248-840-6918 works the best. If class payment has not been paid on time, you may lose your spot in the class. Funds from the class go to send robots to kids in need. There are no refunds.

Materials: Students will need to bring a laptop or tablet.
