Scouting Collective 56
Simplified service requirements this year: Each Scout needs to sign up for ONE service shift. Adult supervision is needed for each shift (thank you in advance parents for volunteering!). Each shift requires 3-4 hrs of work, except for the Parish retreat, which is a weekend in a nice resort. There are opportunities for a Friday evening, Saturday mornings, Sunday mornings, and a weekend to take into account your scheduling conflicts.
Please know that this is a serious commitment and that the church depends on YOU. Should you find that you cannot fulfill your commitment, I am asking YOU to please arrange a swap with another Scout and/or parent.
Choices include the following:
* Parish retreat. One weekend in June Fri eve - Sun midday (6/14-6/16, to be confirmed) Duties: lead church children in games, lead the group campfire, be generally helpful with peoples' luggage etc. Spots for 4 Scouts, 1 male adult + 1 female adult
* St. Nick festival. Fri Dec 7 5:30-8:30 (to be confirmed) + prep. Lead church children in games. Spots for 4 Scouts + 1 adult
*Coffee Hour. Choice of 2 Sunday mornings 11:30-1:00 PM + cooking prep. Cook and prepare snacks and serve them after church service on Sunday. May possibly be combined with Cooking Merit Badge February vacation. Spots for 5+ Scouts + 1 adult each of 2 Sundays
*Food Pantry. Choice of 5 Saturday mornings, 9:30-12:00. (Unlike previous years we will not split the shift this year). Help sort, stack, and hand out food items to guests. Spots for 3 Scouts + 1 adult (PLEASE NOTE: Families have been enthusiastic about this activity. However, because of issues of space and overwhelming of the guests, we strictly respect the limits on #s of people; parents and siblings not signed up cannot attend. Thank you for understanding!)
Thank you Scouts for your community service to our sponsoring organization, St. James!
