Lesson Purpose: This lesson plan is designed to provide an overview of the hazards associated with opioids. The student will gain knowledge in how to safely interact with these substances and how to recognize signs of overdose and/or an exposure. Information will be given to assist with the investigation of these overdoses along with additional resources to aid in these investigations.
Training Objectives: At the end of this block of instruction, the participant will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with the information presented during the instructional period:
1. Review current trends related to heroin and opioid use.
2. Recognize hazards and risks associated with opioids and fentanyl within the detention facility.
3. Recognize how inmates obtain drugs within the detention facility.
4. Identify resources and information available to assist in hazardous drug-related matters.
