Pitt Community College Law Enforcement Training Division
This 40-hour (five 8 hour days, 8am-5pm) course is taught in cooperation with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and Trillium Health Resources. This course will certify officers as a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Officer and prepare them to respond to mental health calls through the knowledge gained about persons with mental illnesses, addictive disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and dementia. De-escalation skills will be taught to deal with various situations in the field.
Participants will also have the opportunity for face-to-face interactions with individuals who are in recovery and family members.
The CIT Program is a community-based collaborative between individuals in recovery, families, the behavioral health system, law enforcement agencies, mental health providers, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), consumer advocacy organizations, the community college and the medical community.
