Lesson Purpose: This lesson plan will present an overview of both the Sheriffs’ and the Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commissions, their roles in education, issuance of certifications, and reviewing matters of rule violations. It will also serve to inform criminal justice personnel on how to find answers to questions that commonly arise during employment, including a review of relevant North Carolina Administrative Code sections.
Training Objectives: At the end of this block of instruction, the participant will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with the information received during the instructional period:
1. Explain the purpose of the Criminal Justice and Sheriffs’ Education & Training Standards Commissions and discuss the roles of both their Standards Divisions.
2. List and describe how issues regarding “moral character” manifest during employment, the consequences of those actions, and discuss the Commissions’ roles in resolving those matters.
3. Describe the various instructor certifications, the process for obtaining and maintaining them, and their relevance to career planning.
4. Accurately locate sections of the North Carolina Administrative Code as well as other professional resources, for the purpose of finding answers to common criminal justice personnel concerns.
