12/17-19/2019 - Crisis Intervention Team for First Responders (TC/EMS/Fire/Emergency Management)

This CIT course is a 24-hour (three 8 hour days, 8am-5pm) training designed to assist First Responders (Telecommunicators, EMS/Fire/Emergency Management) in crisis incidents involving individuals with a mental health or substance use crisis, and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Officers will learn the following:

  • How to identify and effectively interact with people who have mental illness,intellectual or developmental disabilities, and/or addictions
  • Basic medication awareness
  • Verbal de-escalation skills
  • Awareness of community resources

Participants will also have the opportunity for face-to-face interactions with individuals who are in recovery and family members.


The CIT Program is a community-based collaborative between individuals in recovery, families, the behavioral health system, law enforcement agencies, mental health providers, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), consumer advocacy organizations, the community college and the medical community.


All students that complete the training will receive a certificate of completion and a CIT uniform pin.
