Loaves & Fishes Volunteers
Dear Monday Meal Providers:
September 2020 update: The kitchen at Dorothy Day is currently being remodeled. There is no stove top or oven, only a microwave. There are fewer people there, but it's ok if you want to cook for the usual number, as now more than ever they appreciate leftovers that they can warm in the microwave. Call Joel's cell (218-340-4356) to arrange for delivery of your meal.
Our meal delivery continues during Covid 19 epidemic. Here are New Guidelines from Loaves and Fishes: It’s helpful if meals come earlier (4:30-5) as we are now serving in shifts. Same numbers (12-15). Appreciate it if folks call/text in advance to the house (218-724-2054) or Joel’s cell (218-340-4356) and we can meet them at the door or their car or have a no contact drop off on the porch. Thank you!
Peace Church volunteers deliver an evening meal every Monday for 12-15 people who are living at the Loaves and Fishes Dorothy Day house, which provides hospitality for those who have few other choices about where to sleep. Thank you for volunteering to provide a meal. Meals that we serve include both meat and vegetarian options. When deciding what to cook, it is always a good idea to call ahead (Dorothy Day House 724-2054) to see what they have had for meals this month and ask how many people they are expecting. Leftovers are always welcomed. You also have the option of purchasing groceries for the house and letting the residents do the cooking.
The Dorothy Day house address is 1712 Jefferson St, just below St. Paul’s Episcopal on East Superior Street. The phone number is 724-2054. We need each volunteer to provide a meal about once every three months. We are always looking for more people to be regular volunteers or subs, so please invite others to join in this ministry.
Please sign up for the date(s) that work for you to provide dinner. If your availability changes at a later date, you can swap dates with someone else on this list or reach out to the church office. We will send this schedule out whenever we need more slots to be filled.
Thank you for your help and for sharing your gift with others of our community!
