First Presbyterian Ann Arbor
The Feeding Our Neighbors Program has been operating since 2011. During the last seven years the program has expanded from just picking up the cooked, but unsold, food at football games to include all Big Ten Basketball games and food from the athlete’s kitchen, which is extremely high quality and ready to be reheated and served by the social organizations we support.
Over the course of the eight years, we have rescued about 120,000 lbs of food. In 2018 we rescued 20,000 lbs of food which went to Cass Community Services, Second Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, Circles Program and First Presbyterian Church of Ypsilanti’s Riverside Meal Program.
Volunteers of all ages, from middle school to adults, are needed to support the football game food pickup.
We need volunteers to help with:
This is a great activity as you are part of game day but also get to see “the other side” of the Stadium experience. The group has a great time and you get a free hot dog(s) and popcorn while participating in picking up the food and storing it in the freezer. The Detroit experience on Sunday is eye opening as you see real poverty and the positive impact our efforts have on the people.
