Habitat Construction Crew
Welcome to the Habitat Construction Site Sign Up! Whether you are skilled in construction or looking to learn a new skill--we are excited to have you join us! Please read all of the information included below--there are a LOT of important details!
We build on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Thursday and Friday, we meet at the Fremont Area Habitat office (701 East Dodge Street) at 8 a.m. On Saturday we meet at 7:30. Wear work-appropriate clothes to volunteer with Habitat. This means close-toed shoes and clothes that you are not afraid to get dirty. If you show up dressed in inappropriate attire, you may be asked to go home and change.
All new volunteers over the age of 18 will need to fill out an Adult Release of Liability Waiver and sign off on the Work Crew Safety Guidelines prior to volunteering. These forms will have to be signed every year that the volunteer participates. The paperwork can either be printed and filled out from here or filled out at the office. Volunteers under age 18 will need to have a parent or guardian fill out the Minor Volunteer Waiver. Please read carefully and be sure to fill it all out! Volunteers on the construction site need to be 18 or over if there are power tools being used. We have a few jobs that volunteers age 16-17 can help out with (digging, painting, cleaning) but those jobs are not always available, so please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Nick, for more information. Volunteers completing Court-Ordered Community Service will also need to fill out and sign the Community Service Acknowledgement form.
Additionally, new volunteers need to complete a one-time General Orientation and Job Site Safety Orientation (found here: http://bit.ly/1NwvHqj).
For Court-Ordered volunteers, if you sign up for a shift, we expect you to be there. If for some reason you are unable to, you need to sign back into the scheduler and take your name off the schedule. You also need to call and let Nick know. The success of Habitat is tied directly to the reliability, dependability and work ethic of our volunteers. Two no call/no shows on shifts will result in us asking the Community Service Volunteer to complete the remainder of their hours elsewhere. Treat Habitat staff, volunteers and all others with respect and courtesy at all times.
A few other rules:
-Sign in and out upon arrival and departure. We track hours for grants and if you don't sign out, then we have to guess when you left!
-Please limit cell phone usage while volunteering.
-The use of tobacco products on Habitat property is prohibited. This includes e-cigarettes and chewing tobacco.
Lastly, remember to enjoy your volunteer experience! Habitat volunteers are a wonderful group of very diverse people. They work hard and learn, but have fun. If you have any questions or concerns along the way, let Nick know!
