At King of Glory, the age at which children begin communion is a family decision. We acknowledge that children mature at different ages and some parents have strong preferences as to the appropriate age for children to begin taking communion. Each year we offer multi-week communion education classes for children in second grade and above whose parents have determined their child is ready to begin receiving communion.
This coming year, parents and children are invited to join Pastor Jim on Sunday, Jan. 6th for Breakfast and Conversation. Pastor Jim will be talking with parents on the topic, “Is Your Child Ready for Communion” and will answer questions. While Pr. Jim is talking with the parents, Miss Rainey will be meeting with the children in room 111. Parents will then decide if they want their children to participate in the communion education workshops. If you need more time to consider your options, feel free to schedule an appointment with Pastor Jim in advance. The schedule in more detail:
Jan. 6, 9:45-10:45, Activity Center Cafe – Breakfast and Conversation. Participating children and parents are invited to join Pastor Jim for conversation around “Is Your Child Ready for Communion”. Families with 3rd - 5th grade children who have not yet started communing are also invited. Children will not attend Sunday School Story or Choir on this date. Please let Rainey Smith know of any dietary restrictions.
Jan. 13, 20 and 27, 9:45-10:45, Room 111 – Into Communion Workshops. Children explore communion with Miss Rainey. Children will NOT attend story or choir Sunday School these weeks.
Feb. 3, 9:45-10:45, Fellowship Hall - Into Communion Celebration Breakfast. This is for children who will be celebrating First Communion along with their families and special friends. There will be an informational email sent to you in January 2019. The children will be recognized and commune at the 11:00 worship service only.
