Vassana period gives us an opportunity to participate in the well-being and welfare of the monks, temple as well as for us to grow spiritually.
We are so fortunate to have Georgia Buddhist Vihara in the vicinity for our religious activities. Also grateful to have two residents monks in the temple as all us presume.
The resident monks are contributing a lot to our Buddhist community by facilitating Sunday school, conducting Poya day program, Poya day retreats by inviting other monks, youth retreats and meditations among few. In addition during this Vassana period resident monks perform Atavisi Buddha Puja every day and Suthra discussions which help us to develop our mind to get closer to the teachings of Buddha.
However, you may or may not be aware, the temple has more than $600 per month in expenses just for the utility bill. This is even higher during the winter or when we have a full day/overnight functions. In addition to this, there are other expenses like liability insurance for the temple, car insurance etc. These bills are usually taken care of, by resident monks with the donations they receive from Sri Lankan Buddhist communities and other Buddhist Communities (Cambodian, Vietnam, and Burma). There are two donation boxes in the temple, please contribute even a dollar to make a difference.
We have come to realize that resident monks put their priorities to take care of bills over the health when needed. But their good health should be one of our priority and responsibility. One way of preventing or protecting the greater need for their health in the future, as an initial step we would like to start a Health Savings Account (HSA Account) for future medical needs when it arises.
In this HSA account plan, each resident monks have their own HSA account. Your contribution towards these accounts are tax-deductible and roll over to following years if that is not used. For these HSA account money is a great help for monks to have good health coverage. It can be used to obtain a high deductible insurance plan with low monthly payment and, can be used to cover Copay and for prescriptions.
For each year HSA account could carry max $3450 per monk and our goal is to raise $6900 for both of the monks for the year.
Please make check or cash payable to Georgia Buddhist Vihara (or just write GBV) and mentions the donation is for HSA account contribution. Your donation is equally divided between the monks. Remember that every donation makes a difference, regardless of the amount. Thank you in advance for your support.
