**POSTPONED TO 4/24** 4/10 Youth & Volunteers Needed: Mural Painting

ASA Now invites youth and adult volunteers to help us paint a mural on our 40 ft. pod. This is a four month life skills class in which youth impacted by foster care will be painting a mural. This event will give youth the opportunity to be creative. When completed, the mural will be something they'll be able to come back to and visit for many years to come. Adults are encouraged to volunteer to assist with this project. A special thank you to artist Nick Kowalski for his willingness to give of his time and talents.

Please bring a paint brush and/or a small paint roller frame and roller if you have one. Paint will be available. If you happen to have a ladder and some old towels or rags, be sure to bring those as well.

Financial Support: Donate for FREE and make a huge impact in the lives of a foster children by making a monetary donation to help offset the expenses of paint, painting supplies and spray paint. See how you can make a donation below.

BACKGROUND CHECK

Parents place an immense amount of trust in the person or people responsible for caring for the children while they attend this life skills event. It is for that reason that we ask that all participating adults (age 18 and older) have a background check. We can assist you in obtaining a background check. Your cost is $12 and it is valid for two years. Please follow directions below to obtain a background check. If you already have a background check please see the link below to email us the copy. If you volunteered at a past event and already received your background clearance you do not need to get clearance again. We have it on record that you have been verified.

**If you are volunteering and already have a fingerprint clearance card, please email us a copy of your card through our website at http://www.asanow.org/become-involve-sign-up.html

***If you need to have your background checked, please log on to https://opportunities.averity.com/ASANow. Please note that you will need to provide your full name, social security, date of birth and email. You'll need a credit card to pay on-line. You may skip all other questions such as previous address by simply typing a few letters. You will receive a follow up email from Averity with your background information.

On behalf of the foster parents, thank you so much for your support!

Covid

A new Health Order requires everyone in Mesa to wear face coverings when they are outside of their homes for essential needs, and requires staff and volunteers who interact with the public to cover their face while doing essential work. Upon arrival to Jacob's Mission Community Center you will be asked to sign-in, sanitize your hands and your temperature will be taken. We ask that all volunteers wear a face covering at all times. One will be provided if you do not bring one. Volunteers with symptoms such as a cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, muscle aches, headache, chills, or fever should stay home. We ask that volunteers wash or sanitize hands often (sanitizer will be provided). Volunteers will practice social/physical distancing as much as possible and ask that they stand or sit at least 6 feet apart from other volunteers.

PLEASE CALL US IF YOU ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO ATTEND AT 623-428-1592

DONATIONS

If You are a tax payer in the state of Arizona, the Foster Care Tax Credit allows you to take a dollar-for-dollar credit for donations made to support charities that devote the majority of their work to children in foster care. A great way to put your tax dollars to use to help children impacted by foster care! Your donation does not limit your ability to give under other Arizona tax credits. You can take the Foster Care tax credit in addition to other Arizona tax credits, such as the school tuition, charitable organizations, military relief fund, private, and or other public school tax credit.

Please consider redirecting your state tax dollars to before April 15the to our nonprofit. You’ll get a dollar for dollar reduction in what you owe or an increase in your refund.

In 2020, and with our angel volunteers, ASA Now served over 2,500 families, 10,000 children and distributed $350,000 worth of basic necessities to children and youth impacted by foster care. These totals far surpass our 2019 totals of 1,280 families and 5,010 children and our distribution of $48,507, and are evidence of the dynamic, responsive approach with which we serve the needs of Arizona’s foster and adoptive community.

ASA Now is in Arizona Qualifying Foster Care Charitable Organization (QFCO). Arizona tax law allows those who donate to qualifying foster care charitable organization to receive a maximum tax credit of $1,000 for joint filers and $500 for single filers. This donation is more than just a deduction. It is a dollar for dollar reduction in what you owe or an increase in your refund!

There are currently more than 14,000 children in the foster care system in Arizona and more than 400,000 in the US, and that statistic is rising rapidly due to our drug and opioid crisis. Every statistic that you see is not just a number - every number is a child. A child who was forced to leave their home. If you look at the statistics regarding Foster Care, it is alarming. Failure at school, high school dropouts, teen pregnancies, drug use, mental health problems, homelessness, incarceration, unemployment and the list goes on.

Please consider being the light in these children’s life. There are numerous ways to take action, change starts with each one of us. Be a mentor, volunteer, donate money to help the programs that reverse the statistics of our foster kids. We know what being in the system does to foster children self-esteem, and mentoring and volunteering helps prevent repeating that cycle. Find a way to provide your skills and services to help children. Support these kids who have been abused, neglected by their families. If you can’t volunteer at the center, then hold clothing, food donation or toy drives, there truly are a lot of opportunities to help.

ASA Now is a volunteer driven organization and we are a foster care charitable organization if you cannot volunteer, we welcome you to make monetary donation. ASA Now needs assistance with operational expenses. Please consider making a donation.
