Deathtrap Auditions

Director Thom Ogilivie will ask those auditioning to do cold readings from the script. No other preparation is required.  All will come at the same time each night and leave when dismissed by the director. If you will arrive late, please add that to your comments when you sign up If you need to leave early, please let the director know.  You may sign up for both evenings if you wish.  Call backs, if needed, will be at the discretion of the director. (Casting 3M and 2F)

A synopsis of the play and the characters to be cast are as follows:

Synopsis: When Sydney Bruhl, a former star playwright of murder mysteries, receives a script from a student, Clifford Anderson, Sydney realizes that this script could be his chance to return to stardom. Sydney is determined to do anything to have this script, including murder. When Clifford arrives, however, Sydney, as well as his nervous wife Myra, find themselves in for more than they ever expected. 

Characters: 

Sydney Bruhl: Once the author of many successful mysteries, Sydney is now a reclusive author, living off his wife's trust fund while he hunts for his next great idea. Mid 40s. Must be comfortable with stage combat.

Clifford Anderson: A seminar student of Sydney's. Clifford writes the script that inspires Sydney to turn to more nefarious schemes to claim it for his own. Naive, youthful, sincere. Mid 20s, must be comfortable with stage combat.

Myra Bruhl: Sydney's wife. Loving, compassionate, worried for her husband. She wants to support her husband, but also wants to protect him from turning to murder. Mid 30s to mid 40s.

Helga Ten Dorp: A Dutch psychic, vacationing at the cottage next door to the Bruhls. She might be the linchpin in Sydney's plan. Late 30s to mid 60s. European accent. 

Porter Milgrim: Sydney's lawyer. Introduces some details that change the course of Sydney's plan. Mid 40s to mid 60s. Must be comfortable with semi harsh language.
