Thank you for volunteering for Lunch Buddies. This program allows teachers a much-needed break during their lunchtime.
As a Lunch Buddy you will...
- Help students open lunch items
- Wipe down tables as classes leave the lunchroom
- Pickup trash and sweep the floor
- Be a friendly face helping make MES a happy place
When you arrive, please check in at the front office and get a visitor's badge. Then please wash your hands in the staff restroom located to the right of the main office and proceed to the lunchroom. On the back wall you will find gloves and aprons for you to wear, as well as scissors (only to be used on dairy products), paper towels, a broom & dustpan, and rags in a bucket of water.
As students take their seats in the lunchroom, remind them to raise their hands if they need help. After classes are dismissed from the cafeteria, please wipe down their tables and benches, and sweep as necessary. Generally, students should remain seated during lunchtime, however they are permitted to use the restroom one at a time once they’ve discarded their trash.
*** Please be aware that there are students at Montgomery with life-threatening food allergies. The most common food allergens include nuts, nut butters, dairy (milk, yogurt, cheese, etc.…) and eggs. To avoid unwanted cross-contamination, please be mindful as you are assisting children with opening lunch containers, cutting open packages, and wiping down tables. After handling any common food allergens, please change your gloves and set aside rags that have touched the food. Please only use scissors on dairy products. If a student reports or exhibits any signs of an allergic reaction or appears to be in distress, alert the on-duty staff in the cafeteria and make sure the child is escorted to the clinic immediately. Reactions vary but may include trouble breathing, itchiness, rashes, tingly feelings, congestion, and vomiting.***
If you have any questions, ask a staff member in the lunchroom. Thanks again for helping our students have a safe and clean lunchroom experience.
