Kirk in the Hills
The community Thanksgiving Dinner at First Presbyterian of Pontiac will look a little different this year due to COVID-19 precautions. All dinner guests arriving in-person will remain outside of the building and receive meals packed to-go to take with them or to enjoy outside under tents. We anticipate serving up to 150 to-go meals through the lobby door portal between noon and 2:30pm. We will also be delivering another 150 pre-packaged meals to local institutions as in years past.
The church Dining Room will be set up with socially distanced workstations to pack all the to-go containers. As with all church activities at FPC-Pontiac, face masks are required to be worn indoors. Come volunteer to be a part of this Thanksgiving tradition, done in a new way for everyone’s safety.
First Presbyterian Church is located at:
99 Wayne Street, Pontiac, MI 48342
Prior to Thanksgiving Day, there are opportunities to help through donations or working in the kitchen. Donations of frozen turkeys and fully baked pies are needed at specific times. To donate at a different time, please call the church at 248-335-6866 so that arrangements can be made to meet you at the curb. Monetary contributions can be sent directly to FPC-Pontiac.
On Thanksgiving Day, numerous shift jobs need to be filled:
- Working in the kitchen preparing food under the direction of the Cook
- Working in the Dining Room assembling meals in containers
- Handing out meals and serving beverages through the lobby door portal
- Setting up (and taking down) tents, tables, and chairs
Give thanks to God for all you have by giving to others on Thanksgiving Day. This is a very uplifting ministry to be a part of, for volunteers and guests alike.
