Dear Friends and Family, if you are receiving this email you have been identified as a friend or family member of Karen’s. As you all know, Karen has carried the Alzheimer’s diagnosis for over two years. Thank you all for your continued prayers. Many of you have asked me what can you do to help. If you desire, you can now go on line and see what options are available for ways of assisting Karen and I.
Karen has lost her zest, interest and memory for doing many of her former favorite things. She no longer cooks, shops, engages in computer or crossword puzzle time, drives or ventures out on her own. However, her spirits remain high, she still has that hearty laugh, she has a good memory for people’s names and she loves to go out and be social with friends. While her conversations and storytelling are very limited, she loves to walk and continues her tennis playing twice weekly. As examples, some friends have met her for noon Mass and lunch, some have taken her along on their errands or service activities such as meals on wheels. Some have assisted in her transportation needs to the tennis court, doctor and hair appointments, etc. I continue to take some home office client appointments, and especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, she often gets quite bored.
One important reminder, some of you have attempted to engage her in a variety of arts and crafts activities. She is simply, and sadly, adamantly opposed to trying those creative activities. You will be receiving regular emails identifying some times and needs that you can sign up for to assist Karen and I. Thank you so deeply for your continued interest and support of us. You are treasured friends and family and any effort to assist us will be sincerely appreciated.
So, here is your opportunity. Please check on the on line schedule and, if available and interested, please check that time and activity that might work for you. Again, the options are varied—noon Mass, lunch, walking, transporting, providing an evening meal, joining you on errand runs, go to a matinee movie or just hanging out with Karen. Or, she would welcome any of your creative suggestions for spending time together. Feel free to schedule any amount of time from 30 minutes to three hours. The sign up will include what time you want and what you plan to do so she will be prepared. Any questions or changes in what you sign up for, call Denny on his cell(913-909-2740) or email him at [email protected]. Again, your assistance is deeply appreciated.
Feel free to pass this sign up onto any friends of Karen's.
