Pillars Adult Shelter
Once a month St. Mary/St John Parishes provide a meal for clients staying at the Pillars Adult Shelter (1928 W. College Ave., Appleton). Through this ministry we are directly responding to Jesus' call to "Feed the Hungry." We are privileged to provide 55 people plus staff a hot meal consisting of a main entree, salad/vegetable, fruit/jello, bread and dessert. With offering seconds, you should plan on 80 servings (spoonfuls/bars etc) or more. We welcome volunteers that are willing to make food, assist with serving the meal and clean up. You can choose to just make food or just serve if you don't want to do both. Because of a generous donor, the cost of our meal is covered by their grant! So signing up to make part of the meal would not involve paying for the ingredients. Contact Barb Unruh for details on how this will be done.
Please arrive at 5:30 pm on our assigned day for the 6:00 pm meal time. If your food item is a warm dish - please bring it warm (crock pots are welcome). We will serve until 6:50 pm and should complete clean-up by approximately 7:30 pm.
You must be 14 or older to volunteer (Pillar Adult Shelter rules). Youth 14 -1 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult. If it is your first time volunteering come 15 minutes earlier to fill out some paperwork and get a short orientation. We love new volunteers!!
