After a long summer, here is your chance to be a Family Promise Overnight Host at FUMC! There's room for you to get involved in this, and now's the time! This is our LAST host week of 2019... Come on!!
We'll welcome our guests beginning Sunday, September 29th, and as always, what a blessing it is to be in the role of a gracious host to our guests in the Family Promise Program, and what an honor it is to share fellowship with these families as they work their way toward a better future.
Overnight hosts will spend the night at the church and see our guests off in the morning. Overnight hosts are needed on site by 7:00 pm each night during our guests' seven night stay, but you are encouraged to come by 6:00 pm if you like, to have dinner with the guests and the food/fellowship volunteers. This is a great chance to let them get to know you. Hosts will get up early with the guests, help them coordinate a light breakfast, and see them off to the Day Center at about 6:30 am (on weekdays). On Saturday, there is more flexibility in the morning if you want to team up with the food/fellowship volunteers to provide a hot breakfast. We can talk about this, but the guests leave by 9 am on Saturday. Also- if a Host absolutely needs to leave early (6 am) for work, we have another volunteer who could come if needed for just the early morning routine.
We need TWO Hosts each night. Ideally a male and female, but that's not mandatory. Comfy cots are provided for hosts, but you are encouraged to bring their own blankets/bedding and pillows. Whatever you like.
Please understand that this is not a high-stress obligation. If you have not hosted before don't hesitate to sign up (just text me at 830-743-7701 to set up an orientation and remember to include your name. Usually we do it Sunday afternoon.)
Our Church has been hosting Family Promise guests since the program's 2013 beginning in New Braunfels, and it has proven to be a wonderful, long-term ministry. Please prayerfully consider getting involved in one or more capacities, and tell a friend what you're doing, so that maybe they'll join this effort as well. It really is a fun way to serve!
I encourage you to sign-up soon so that we can verify (or update) your current background check through the Church.
Thank you for your help and prayers!
Dan Collins, Coordinator
