Minnesota Dahlia Society
We need all hands on deck to help maintain the crown jewel of the MDS, and 1 of only 9 ADS Trial Gardens in the U.S.! This is a fantastic hands-on opportunity to learn dahlia cultivation from experts in our Society.
Work Teams meet Saturday mornings at the Trial Garden starting June 8th. Work starts at 9:00 a.m. and goes until about noon.
The Trial Garden is located on the grounds of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum along 3 Mile Drive across from the Chinese Garden. A small parking lot is available behind the Trial Garden.
There are new policies in place regarding entrance to and working on the Arboretum grounds. Please refer to this link http://minnesotadahliasociety.org/trial-garden-volunteer-process/ regarding the Trial Garden Volunteer Process and complete the volunteer process prior to your first shift in the garden. You cannot work in the garden until this process has been completed (this is a liability issue). IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE VOLUNTEER PROCESS, PLEASE CONTACT ERIC THOMSON OR AMY SIMONSON.
This is a live/real-time signup! You can see who has signed up and the signup will update as people add or remove themselves.
Please sign up for a Work Team with the dates that work best for your schedule. You will receive an email from the Work Team Coordinator, Amy Simonson, on Thursday of the week your team is scheduled, with information on what tasks need to be accomplished per the Trial Garden Director.
If you are unable to make one of the dates for your work team, please let the Work Team Coordinator know and remove yourself from your shift on this signup. You can make up your missed shift by joining a shift with another team.
Additionally, if you would like to spend additional time in the Trial Garden learning, you are welcome to sign up for additional shifts!
If you are unable to make it to the Trial Garden on weekends but still want to assist, you can contact Larry Bagge and join him in the Trial Garden during the weekday. John Kooiman will also be working in the garden on Wednesdays as well.
If you are unable able to commit to a work team, you are still welcome to join us. You can sign up for individual shifts for which you are available.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE SIGNING UP OR REMOVING YOURSELF FROM THE SCHEDULE SO THAT THE WORK TEAM COORDINATOR IS AWARE OF THE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS THAT WILL BE OUT WORKING IN THE GARDEN!
You will be working outside in the elements at the Trial Garden. Remember to bring sunscreen, bug spray, water, snacks, work gloves, buckets/baskets, tools, rain gear, appropriate footwear, etc.
IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH SIGNING UP, PLEASE CONTACT AMY SIMONSON AND SHE WILL BE ABLE TO ADD OR REMOVE YOU FROM THE SIGNUP FOR YOU.
