POPA Helping Houston

Don Greene Nature Park Workday

The Don Greene Nature Park (6009 Cypress St, Houston, TX 77074) was dedicated in memory of Houston Outfitter, Conservationist and Outdoor Educator Don Greene who donated his childhood homestead to serve as an urban wildlife sanctuary.

On Saturday, December 15, from 8am to noon, we will be participating in a park workday.

We will start with a brief tour of the property to explain its features and its purpose in Houston’s urban ecological movement. Then we will:

1 - tend trails

2 - plant Eastern Gamma Grass

3 - pot seeds of Chasmanthium Latifolium

4 - spread tarp on invasive bamboo

5 - clean park benches with soap and water

6 - pluck up invasive Golden Raintree

We will only cancel if it is raining excessively. We usually work on cold days with light rain, so be prepared with gloves, hat, layers of clothing, and solid shoes. Students may bring their own shovel and rakes.

If you have any questions, please contact John Duboise at [email protected] or 713-858-7513.
