Massage Ed Program: Therapeutic Massage Clinical Guidelines & Professional Practices

This course is designed to support massage therapists as clinical health professionals, preparing them to be a contributing health service provider in an Integrative Health Model of Care. Reinforcing the foundation established by professional state and national institutions such as NCBTMB, students will learn basic ethical and research factors when designing treatment plans and providing services. Students will be better prepared to function as a member of a Team-Based Care Model, supporting referrals from mid to upper level health care providers, identified in the U.S. Health Care System. Reinforced by an evidence-based practice model, students will be better prepared to make clinical decisions in private practice or in a health care facility. Special attention will be provided to treatment planning and documentation in support of inter-professional communications among a health care team.

• Students will be trained to practice as a contributing health service provider in an Integrative Health Care Model as therapeutic specialist identified in the U.S. Health Care System.
• Students will understand and demonstrate professional practices expected of a clinical health care provider and member of a Team-Based Care Model.
• Students will be prepared to accommodate patient referrals provided by mid-level to upper-level health care providers.
• Students will adapt practices to an Evidenced Based Practice model, supporting treatment with evidence-based research, ethical practice principles, and clinical professional practices expected of a therapeutic service provider.
• Students will be prepared to participate in the Crouse Health’s Therapeutic Massage Community Based Learning Experience class as part of the Veteran’s, Perinatal, or Infant massage education programs.

CE's Offered:  8 CE's through NCBTMB

Post-Class Support Disclosure:  This class is brought to you by Crouse Health and is designed as a typical professional continuing education class.  The content provided is intended to prepare therapists to work with Veteran clients in independent practice, in volunteer settings, or in clinical settings including, but not limited to, the VA health care system.  Although some instruction includes participation of VA guests it is not a VA-sponsored class.   Upon completion of this class, we encourage therapists to pursue a relationship independently with Veteran Service Organizations, volunteer organizations of their local VA.  Participation in this class does not guarantee massage therapists can enroll in the VA Whole Health Program.  To learn more about the VA's Whole Health Program please visit here.

***For students wanting to complete the entire series to support specialty certification examination qualification, please see https://www.crouse.org/massageforvets/ for more information about the program and requirements.  Students are welcome to sign up for classes individually or they can sign up here three of the main classes over the course of the week under the Massage for Veteran's series classes.

Class Notes: When available we include guest speakers such as local VA health care providers or local area Veterans. All students will be provided with a manual/binder for the class.  Your class fee includes the cost of the materials.   Students who have finalized registration & payments are eligible to sign up for electronic access via a Learning Management System after the start of the first day.

Instructional caution: graphic materials and the inclusion of topics on traumatic life events (TLEs) may be presented in class. Those who have a personal experience with TLE’s, especially related to experience in the U.S. Armed Forces, are welcome to abstain from participating in that presentation of materials while engaging in a substitute learning activity.   Please feel free to contact the instructor prior to the start of class for more information.  Service dogs are sometimes present with their Veterans guest speakers who visit classes on occasion.  If you have questions regarding the presence of dogs in class please contact us.

NOTE: This is an NCBTMB certified massage therapy continuing education course for licensed or certified massage therapists.  Formerly, this course was only available for New York State massage therapists and is now open to massage therapists outside of NYS.  Massage therapists licensed in areas outside of NY can attend the class, observe all instruction and receive massage.  They will receive all credits for the class.  They cannot apply massage techniques which constitutes a small portion of class time.   Allied licensed health professions approved to provide massage therapy as part of their scope of practice can participate in this course and must seek approval independently for continuing education.
