Hoco Test Group
CARITAS is Richmond’s largest emergency shelter, sheltering up to 110 people per night and over 1,000 people annually. This year we will open our doors and our hearts to create a safe and hospitable place for our most vulnerable citizens.
Please volunteer, you may change a life, and your life may change forever.
Dinner Team - 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm each evening
The Dinner Team will bring/prepare and serve the dinner to our guest at 7:00 pm and clean up afterwards. Let us know what meal you plan to prepare so we can share that information to the other teams.
Lunch Packers - Afternoon
Lunch packers assemble bag lunches for our guest and refrigerant. Directions for assembling the bag lunches and all supplies will be provided by Holy Comforter.
Overnight Hosts - 9:00 pm – 7:30 am, each evening
Overnight hosts need to arrive at Holy Comforter around 9:00 PM, come in quietly since lights will be off and our guest in their beds. In the morning, put out the continental breakfast item and bring out the lunches so they can be distributed as they are boarding the bus. Once you have put away the breakfast items you have completed your assignment. Please bring a sleeping bag or blankets for your own comfort.
Laundry - Pick up by 8:00 pm, return by 7:00 pm the next evening
Take home dirty laundry no later than 8:00 pm. Return clean, folded the next evening no later than 7:00 pm.
Shuttle our guests to the shower facilities at First Baptist Church. If you have a minivan, that would allow for more people in less trips. Date and times to be determined.
Our CARITAS Families will free more welcomed when we provide activities for the children and rest for the parents. With New Years Eve in the middle of our week there are many festive ways we can welcome them into our home.
Saturday Morning Breakfast
We want to send our guest off with a warm breakfast on their last day at Holy Comforter. The Breakfast Team will bring/prepare and serve the breakfast to our guest at 6:30 am and clean up after they are done.
Set up and Take Down
At the beginning of our CARITAS week, we set up the fellowship hall for our guest, unload bedding and personal items from the caritas truck, and setup the sleeping and dining areas. At the end, we reverse the process and load the bedding and belongings back on the truck and restoring the fellowship hall for normal use.
