Thank you for your interest in helping DAYS give its children and youth a special holiday season!
We've streamlined the Holiday Gift Drive this year due to COVID and to enable us to ask for donations that are matched to specific children and youth. We respectfully request that you use this SignUpGenius to indicate which items you will purchase for donation, as we are not soliciting donations of toys or random items this year (we already have the toys we need).
We will be delivering Christmas gifts to 126 children/youth (with support from Baby2Baby in providing gifts for 41 of the children/youth) and helping 80 families by providing grocery gift cards to help them enjoy a special holiday meal. So, the Wish List Items you'll see on this SignUpGenius include requests for monetary donations that DAYS will use to purchase grocery gift cards to the one market in the neighborhood that offers gift cards, specific books, art and craft supplies, school supplies, playdough, games of jacks, and $10 gift cards to local eateries for the teenagers. Moreover, we've provided a link for each item through which you can make online purchases (you may need to copy and paste into your browser). Note that you should feel free to purchase the items requested at whatever store you like and that for items like markers, paints, colored pencils, Play-Dough, jacks, and craft kits, an item similar to what is shown in the link is great.
It is our hope that this way of requesting donations does not feel limiting to you but, rather, easier and safer because it enables you to shop online. We'll have opportunities for you to safely drop your donations at the courtyard on the Sunday afternoons surrounding Thanksgiving, 11/22 and 11/29 from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. both days. Alternately, you can order your donations online and have them shipped to us (how easy is that!!!) at DAYS c/o Heather R. Chambers, CPA, Inc., 1230 E. Wardlow Rd., Long Beach, CA 90807. The timeline is short this year to enable us to get all the wrapping done in a safe way (no wrapping party this year!).
So, let’s make a difference in the lives of these families. Let’s help brighten their holidays in a year that has had many dealing with job loss, obstacles related to online school, financial challenges, health concerns, and so much more. Let’s extend our love and support to these families and remind them that they are not alone this holiday season.
If you have any questions or need help shopping or getting your gifts to the FCCLB Courtyard at 241 Cedar Ave. in Long Beach, please do not hesitate to reach out. And, please feel free to forward this SignUpGenius to your friends and family who might be willing to help spread some holiday cheer to the children, youth, and families who are struggling to make ends meet in the downtown area of Long Beach. For many, the gifts they receive through this program will be their only Christmas presents.
