Please sign up for mah jongg play times. Congregation Achduth Vesholom has three mah jongg sets for use in the Madge Rothschild Resource Center (MRRC). Please check them out and return them to the MRRC library desk. There is a $2 donation which helps support MRRC programs like these and we suggest donating your winnings (if you decide to play for money) in the Temple's tzedakah (charity) box. Each date/time will need at least three players signed up in order to play. In case of cancelation, please check your email.
Only have 3 players signed up? No problem! You can still play! Build 4 walls. Deal 13 tiles to each player (14 to the dealer/East) as normal. Just skip the empty seat (nobody is West, for example) -- do not deal tiles to the empty seat. At this point the three of you can choose whether you want to:
A. Skip the Charleston, just go straight to the dealer's first discard (official American rules)
B. Or do a 3-handed Charleston: When passing to the empty seat, place the 3 tiles by the wall at that side of the table. When taking tiles from the empty seat, take any 3 tiles from that side of the table. At the end of the Charleston, repair the now-thoroughly-messed-up wall on the empty side of the table.
