Thompson Center Pickleball
Thompson Center on Lourdes pickleball will be closed on Friday, May 10 — Monday, September 3, 2019 during preparation for the annual St. Bernadette Rummage and Bake Sale and the actual event. No pickleball times will be available on this Signup Genius during the summer except for Thursday, July 18. There will be a free open gym for pickleball play from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. that day. There will be free refreshments and drawings, too. The gym may have openings during the summer on hot and/or rainy days not suitable for pickleball play. Please call (920) 939-3088 for availability.
Look for upcoming Pickleball Basics at TCoL gym in the Fall of 2019. Further details will be on the TCoL website. Phone with questions or to register. (920) 939-3088
The Thompson Center follows school district CLOSINGS when there is inclement weather. When there is only a 2-hour delay, it will be open and will run activities starting at 10:30 a.m.

Sign up for court time is available on Monday, Tuesday and Fridays 8:30-4:30 p.m., most Wednesdays 8:30-3:30 p.m. and Thursdays 12:30-4:30 p.m. Signups can be scheduled starting September 3, 2019 at this time. Put specific time you want to play in the comment box to communicate with other players and to reserve court.
TCoL is closed on the following days: Memorial Day Monday, May 27; Thursday, July 4; Labor Day Monday, September 2; Thanksgiving Thursday & Friday, November 28,29; Christmas Tuesday & Wednesday, December 24, 25; New Year Tuesday & Wednesday, December 31, January 1.
Cost is $3 per session. First time is free. Punch cards are $30 for 11 sessions, $60 for 23 sessions, $90 for 34 sessions. Couples can share punch cards. Cards can be purchased and are kept at Thompson Center at the desk of Jen Anger, Operations Coordinator. (920) 939-3088 (Office)
At least 4 players are needed to play on each court, or 2 for singles. If more, players can be rotated.
Note: There are 2 courts to sign up for each session. Please sign up so you know the number of nets that will be needed during your session. If no one is waiting, you can play into the next session. Note time in comments by your name if you know you will start play in part of a session and will continue into another session or won't need all the time alloted.
Equipment is available on site. At this time there are 8 wooden paddles and indoor balls. To reserve a paddle you may want to note that in the comment section when signing up. Donations were made by Play It Again Sports on 611 W Northland Ave, Appleton, WI 54911 and Scheels Sporting Goods on 4301 W Wisconsin Ave, Appleton, WI 54913. Thanks to them for their generosity!
Please be respectful when signing up so a foursome isn't shorted at the last minute. Better to have too many than not enough playing. Just to be sure, check your signup before going to Thompson Center Gym to make sure you have a foursome. Please delete name from sign up if unable to play on a specific date.
If it's been awhile since you've exercised and you have health issues or concerns, it's a good idea to talk to your doctor before starting a new exercise routine like pickleball.
Remember to wear court shoes and not street shoes or running shoes. Also, consider eye protection since any game with balls, racquets (paddles) and flying objects pose a threat to the eyes. Bring paddle, and water bottle. Balls are found in black pickleball net bags in the first floor storage room to the northeast side on outside of the gym. The gym lights are to the right when entering this room. Loaner paddles are kept in the second floor office. A water fountain is found by the stage. There are places to hang jackets along the gym wall and shelves on the west wall to put belongings. You can always ask the Jen or people working in the TCoL office on the second floor if there is any confusion.
The portable nets may have to be assembled and taken down during your session. The nets can be pushed carefully to a side wall, preferably the northeast wall, when play is done for the day. The gym is in use by other groups on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings so the equipment needs to be taken down at the end of the day or play and are stored in the second floor supply room. Jen will lock the gym doors at the end of the day.
Please make sure any warming up with hitting pickleballs is done inside the gym and not against the walls outside the gym.
Thanks to Jane and Larry G. for the new orange pickleball court tape and lines!
