Swampscott Middle School
Big Blue Bargains Thrift Store (BBB) is a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers from each of the five schools in Swampscott (Stanley, Hadley, Clarke, Middle and High School). In addition to BBB board members, at least two volunteers from participating schools cover the shifts during hours of operation. In addition to adult volunteers (parents, grandparents and other relatives), BBB welcomes student volunteers from SMS (Grades 7 & 8) as well as SHS (Grades 9-12).
Each school is assigned a week every 5 weeks: On the week assigned to Swampscott Middle School (SMS), we are responsible for covering Wed 8:30- 10:30 with 2 volunteers and Saturday with a minimum of 1, preferably 2 volunteers for each of the two shifts: 9-11 am and 11-1 pm.
Since BBB opened in January 2012, the store has raised over $100,000. All of the monies raised are distributed to the five schools in Swampscott. In order for SMS to receive its disbursement checks from BBB, SMS must meet the minimum volunteer commitment.
One of the benefits of volunteering is that you receive half off your purchases. Boutique items marked ‘firm’ and other items may be excluded.
- 50% off discount applies only on the day you volunteer
- Payment is due on the day of purchase.
- We are no longer able to hold items without payment
