This site only prepares returns for US Residents. Due to capacity restraints we are unable to prepare tax returns for Graduate and Professional Students. If you are a foreign student or scholar or need to file a Non-Resident (NR) return, please email [email protected] and put Tax preparation in the subject line.
Also, please note that we cannot prepare taxes for anyone whose household income exceeds $56,000 per year.
After entering your information, please check the box that says "Send me a confirmation email with an iCalendar (.ics) file. This confirms your appointment but also provides you with the steps necessary to change or cancel your appointment.
Please remember to bring the following:
Government Issued Photo ID
Social Security Card or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) letter for all individuals to be listed on the return
- Copies of ALL W-2, 1098, and 1099 forms
- College or University Student Account Statement
- Copy of 1095-A.
- Amounts of any other income
- Child care provider's name, address and identification number
- Amounts/dates of estimated or other tax payments made
- Bank documents showing routing and account numbers if requesting direct deposit/debit.
- A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available.
Additionally, to make the process flow more quickly, you can download and fill out the IRS Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet. This form can be obtained by taking the following steps: log onto the IRS website at www.irs.gov. In the search box type 13614-C. Click on Intake/Interview Review Sheet. Download, complete and print the form. For forms in Spanish, type in 13614-C (SP).

If you are married filing a joint return you only need one appointment. If you are married filling separate returns, each taxpayer must have a separate appointment.
If you are filing prior years, please indicate which prior years you are filing in the comments section.
Winter Weather Advisory:
If Duke University closes because of the winter weather advisory, we too, will be closed and you will need to reschedule. If the University remains open and you decide to not come, please leave a message on our information line (919-613-8526).
Address and directions:
The address for your mapping software is 210 Science Drive, Durham, 27708.
Free on street parking is available on Towerview Rd. If you park on Towerview Rd, you will enter the building on Towerview Rd. The preparation site is in a large open area down the hall on your left. There will be a sign in front of the area. Paid parking is also available in the Visitor’s lot on Science Drive or the Bryan Center parking deck on at the end of Science Drive. If you park on Science Drive and enter the building off of Science you will need to go down one floor and make a right. The room is a large area on your right.
Information for NR returns:
If you are a foreign student or scholar and are filing a non-resident return, those returns are completed using our Facilitated Self Assist software. Using this software, Foreign Students and Scholars will prepare their own taxes in a group setting with certified tax volunteers on hand to provide guidance. The sessions will take place on March 21, 28, 29 and April 4 and 5.
