The JFS Emergency Lunchbox Express program delivers food to several housing developments in "food deserts" to serve children who cannot access school-based lunch sites. These developments house a large number of immigrant, refugee, and other vulnerable working families — all of whom have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. Bags of meals will last the children for several days, including weekends.
Volunteers will be provided with masks and gloves. To conserve supplies, please bring your own mask if you have one. Volunteers and recipients will all adhere to a strict physical distancing protocol. Please do not volunteer if you are experiencing any symptoms of illness or are in a higher-risk category.
Pack bags of meals at our SHALOM Denver location, 2498 W. 2nd Ave., Denver, CO 80223.
Age Requirements: For packing, volunteers must be at least 16 years old to volunteer on their own. Youth aged 12-15 are welcome to volunteer with an adult. One youth per adult. Please use adult's name on the sign-up, add youth's name/age to the "My Comment" section, and select "2" from the "Quantity" drop down menu. If you are volunteering with a youth and cannot select "2" from the "Quantity" menu, it means that there are not enough spots available in that shift. Please choose another shift where you can volunteer with a youth and select the number "2" from "Quantity."
DISTRIBUTION DRIVER VOLUNTEERS
Meet at SHALOM Denver to receive information about the day's locations. Driving your own cars, you will follow our Lunchbox Express vans to the sites and distribute the bags of meals to families. Vans leave promptly at 10:30 a.m. so please make sure to arrive at SHALOM at 10:20 a.m.
Age Requirements: Minimum age is 21 for a distribution driver position. Anyone aged 12-20 is welcome to volunteer with a person aged 21 or over. Maximum two per car. Please use older person's name on the sign-up, add additional person's name/age to the "My Comment" section, and select "2" from the "Quantity" drop down menu. If you plan to volunteer together with someone and cannot select "2" from the "Quantity" menu, it means that there are not enough spots available in that shift. Please choose another shift where you can volunteer together with someone and select the number "2" from "Quantity."
Available slots are below, just click on the button to sign up. We are extremely reliant on our volunteers for the success of this program, so please only sign up if you are able to commit your time for the entire shift.
If you signed up for a shift and have questions, call 303.597.5000.
If you are unable to volunteer, please consider making a donation to help us meet our increased need for services, and your gift will be matched. View the JFS COVID-19 Response page for more information about our emergency programs and ways to donate. Thank you!
