The Gathering at Scott Memorial
Volunteers are needed to help unload trucks, sort & pack food boxes, and distribute food.
Food insecurity is on the rise in our community due to the economic downturn resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors.
There are many ways in which you can join in the mission of eliminating food insecurity in our community. At The Gathering at Scott Memorial UMC we produce a Drive-Thru Food Distribution, using food that we have procured from several partners, including The Foodbank, Amazon Fresh, Food Lion and other donors. We are currently providing substantial food to over 1000 persons every week. The program is volunteer-managed and driven. Most of the activities occur on Tuesday and Wednesday. Join our community of over 100 volunteers that enjoy the fellowship and camaraderie in serving on this mission together. Our volunteers come from many areas in our community, from Navy ships to corporations to churches to clubs to individuals. If you have a heart for this mission, please volunteer.
Food distribution occurs on Wednesdays from 4 pm - 6:30 pm in a drive-thru format. Clients will remain in vehicles and food boxes will be placed into car trunks.
We are looking for those who can unload trucks, drive trucks or haul trailers, sort and pack food boxes, help load vehicles during food distribution, and distribute food to the community.
