"The course is an introduction to modern fencing. Teaching a brief history, basics of footwork, on-guard stance, defense with parries and strategy. It is with the emphasis on sportsmanship and self awareness and self improvement."
Ages 11 and up
6 week course starting September 4 thru October 9.
Then again October 16 thru December 11.
A little about Mark:
I have been in the sport of fencing for 48 years. I have competed Nationally and
Internationally and made numerous finals in Foil and Sabre. Through the sport of
Fencing I have done many films, TV programs and stage productions. In 1986 I was
certified a Fencing Master, Matre d’ Armes, in Basel, Switzerland in Foil, Sabre and
Epee. From 1981 to 1992 I was in director for the fencing program at Brigham
Young University. I have been a coach for the past 35 years and am one of the head
Referees today in the sport. For the past two years I have been the head Referee for
the NCAA Championships. At the USA Fencing Nationals this year because of the
excellent program and coaching our local club and program received 6 awards, 4 of
those gold medals and two Gold medals for Coaching.
Currently I am the Head Coach at Utah Valley Sport Fencing in Orem, Utah and
oversee and run the program for beginner, intermediate and competitive members
there. I am also a Certified Referee Instructor and train Referees domestically and
internationally for the sport.
