Tree San Diego
Tree San Diego is a 50l(c)(3) tax-exempt organization incorporated in the State of California in March 2014. Our mission is to significantly improve the quantity of quality urban forest in San Diego County. Quantity means increasing the percentage of urban forest. Quality means the right trees, in the right places, properly maintained.
CAL FIRE, the state forestry department, gave us a grant to plant trees. We have planted 600 trees in Logan Heights and northwest Chula Vista.
These trees need to be watered once each week for the next three years, as well as some weeding and mulching.
We cannot do this without help from volunteers, like you, who are interested in nurturing this newly planted urban forest.
During each two-hour shift, you must be able to walk up to 2 miles and carry a bucket of water a short distance from the truck to the tree.
Children are welcome. Please remember the walking involved and the need to step into the street to fill the bucket. Children under 14 must be supervised by a parent.
For specific directions and navigation, enter description of the cross streets into Google Maps search bar. For any other questions, contact [email protected].
*Please print and fill out a Release of Liability Waiver form, and bring it with you when you volunteer. Click here to download the waiver.
Important information! Please be on time to the meeting location (we will wait only about 10 minutes), and you will need to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Bring a hat and sunscreen as needed. Please bring your own water so you can stay well-hydrated. There are no bathroom facilities along the routes we work. The nearest public restrooms are a mile or more away.
**Also, there may be some event cancellations in winter months (Dec. to Feb.). During these months, when there is rain and cooler conditions, tree watering does not occur every week to prevent overwatering.
