MUST Laundry Volunteers
Our friend Fred Massey has organized a service at the Must Ministries Elizabeth Inn Shelter on Cobb Parkway (by the GA Power Plant) http://www.mustministries.org/pages/4.-locations/elizabeth-inn-location#.V-FHbvkrJD8 . This shelter houses roughly 30-40 guests whose stay typically lasts for 30 days while they get back on their feet. Most of these guests are day laborers and also are looking for job opportunities- and in need of clean clothes to continue their climb.
The Must Shelter has 3 washing machines/dryers to cover this large group of guests. Volunteers are needed to do the laundry and provide clean, folded clothes back so that the guests can go about their business.
In providing this service in the past, I have truly enjoyed the experience. It is very gratifying to help someone who is working hard to improve their place in life, and to assist in a way that matters very much to them. I have brought along some young men (mentees, mostly) who were looking to fill required service hours for their school, or just interested in delivering a worthwhile service. Each and every time, we leave feeling accomplished and feeling like the world is actually spinning in a good direction.
Basically we need two people (usually) to work from about 6pm to 11pm. It isn’t the most taxing thing- empty baskets into the washer, change to the dryer and fold- repeat. There is down time to read or talk to volunteers and guests. If you could try and give this a try just once a year, we can leave the world in a better place.
