Mitzvah Weekend January 17 - 19, 2020

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend, is an opportunity for a weekend on. It is an opportunity for us to celebrate Dr. King's legacy of service and helping others.  Mitzvah Weekend is a chance for each of us to answer Dr. King’s question, “what are you doing for others?” 

Join other Sinai families and members for an entire weekend dedicated to celebrating our longstanding commitment to social action and justice.

Signup for volunteering opportunities across the city.

We are also looking for individuals to help lead each project.  If you have volunteered at this project in the past and feel comfortable enough to help lead, which simply entails potentially connecting with staff at the site on the day of to ensure everything runs smoothly and taking lots of pictures of the volunteering and emailing them to Rabbi Zinn, we would love your help.  You can indicate your willingness to help lead when you sign up or Email Rabbi Zinn [email protected]

Join us at Sinai for additional volunteering from 10am - 12pm, no sign up required.

We do need one individual or family who is able to help deliver the sack lunches after they are packed on Sunday morning.  This means picking them up on Sunday around 11:30 and driving them to Lincoln Park Community Service (1521 N Sedgwick St Chicago, IL 60610).  If you are able to help with this please email Rabbi Zinn [email protected]

Open to all ages. Join in helping build new garden planters. We will build inside so they can be brought outside to the garden in the spring. Wear closed toed shoes. If you have power tools let us know as we may need additional tools.

Lakeview Pantry

Ages 8 and up. Lakeview Pantry provides groceries and essentials to our neighbors who struggle with food insecurity. Help sort, organize and distribute food. Come dressed for a mess, closed toed shoes are required.

Cornerstone Community Outreach

Ages 12 and up. Help prepare and serve a dinner for adult and child residents of the homeless shelter. Participants will cook, serve dinner, and clean up after service. Please wear closed toe shoes and dress in layers as the kitchen can get hot.
