On April 1, 2021, Room in the Inn-Memphis began a new chapter in its mission to provide HOLY HOSPITALITY to those experiencing homelessness in our city. The historic Collins Chapel Hospital on 409 Ayers Street has been completely renovated and will serve as RITI-Memphis’s main campus. In this beautiful new space, there is a RECUPERATIVE CARE UNIT and a FAMILY INN. Unsheltered patients being discharged from local hospitals will spend time in the Recuperative Care Unit recovering from their medical issues. Families who are experiencing homelessness will stay in the Family Inn until more permanent shelter can be secured. Room in the Inn case managers will be working with these guests to meet their individual needs.
On every SUNDAY night, Calvary will “host” the guests staying in both the Family Inn and the Recuperative Care Unit. As usual, there are many ways to help! Some will provide dinner, a side or a salad while others will serve dinner and clean up. Others may want to come after dinner for quiet conversation with RCC guests or play lively games with the children in the Family Inn.
On SATURDAY nights, Calvary parishioners and friends are welcome to help Emmanuel Methodist Church with serving and hospitality from 6 - 8:30 pm.
All of our guests will be tested for Covid prior to arrival at Room in the Inn. To keep our guests and volunteers at minimal risk, we will all need to wear masks (if you are not vaccinated for Covid-19), maintain social distance and wash our hands often. Volunteers may have dinner with the guests.
Please join us in showing God’s love to the guests at the RITI Family Inn and Recuperative Care Unit from now through September. If you have any questions, please contact Betty Jo Dulaney at [email protected].
