AUDITIONS
Auditions for RAGTIME will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020, 6:30-9:30 PM at The Elwood Smith Center located at 601 Harrington Rd, Rockville, MD 20852. Anyone not available to audition on Friday, March 13, 2020, should email [email protected] to make alternative arrangements.

There is a non-refundable $150 tuition deposit payable at the time of audition that will be applied to your tuition balance. Please make checks payable to OVATIONS THEATRE. If you are NOT selected to be a member of the cast (which includes both a principal role or ensemble) the tuition deposit will be refunded. 

CALLBACKS
Callbacks for RAGTIME will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2020, from 4:30-9:30 PM at The Elwood Smith Center located at 601 Harrington Rd, Rockville, MD 20852

TUITION
Tuition for RAGTIME will be $975. Additionally, there is a $50 costume fee. There is limited financial aid and/or payment plan options available for this production. Those interested should contact [email protected] Please note there are NO refunds unless not cast in the production.

AUDITION INFO 
Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment to check in and submit your completed paperwork. Please bring a current photo, resume and check payable to OVATIONS THEATRE in the amount of $150.00.

The cast list will be emailed by 10 AM on Monday, March 16, 2020. Prospective cast members must email [email protected] indicating acceptance or rejection of their roles by 3PM on Saturday, December 14, 2020. Rehearsals will begin Monday, March 16, 2020. Full tuition payment is required at the first rehearsal unless payment arrangements are made in advance by contacting [email protected]

AUDITION PREPARATION 
Please prepare 16-32 bars of a musical theatre song. Please remember to bring sheet music copied in a three-ring binder; an accompanist will be provided. NO ACCAPELLA SINGING WILL BE ACCEPTED. Your selection should demonstrate both your vocal range and acting abilities.

JUNIOR COMPANY ROLES
Little Girl – Tateh’s daughter.  Still reeling from the death of her mother and leaving her home, she speaks very little. Vocal range – D5 – A3

Little Boy (Edgar) – Mother & Father’s son. Wise beyond his years, an interested and prescient observer of all that goes on around him. Vocal range – D5 – A3

PRINCIPAL ROLES
COALHOUSE A proud, sophisticated musician who fights to follow the law of the land as it continually turns it’s back on him.  He only wants to be heard and have vindication, but even that is denied him. African-American. Vocal Range – B5 – G3 

SARAH The love of Coalhouse Walker’s life who is taken into Mother’s home when her newborn baby is found in Mother’s garden. Need strong mix/belt. African-American. Vocal range – F5 to G3

SARAH’S FRIEND also a member of the ensemble – Sings solo in ”Till We Reach that Day”. Vocal Range – D5-D3

BOOKER T WASHINGTON The dominant figure in the Black community of the United States at the turn of the 20th century.  Founder of the Tuskegee Institute. African-American. Vocal range  – E5 – C4

MOTHER a strong, kind woman who defies social norms to do the things she believes are correct. Need strong belt/mix. Vocal range – E5 -G3

TATEH An immigrant who travels under great hardship to America to search for his dream. Vocal Range – F5 – A3

FATHER Conservative, well-traveled, but does not understand why his life and everything around him is changing.  He is truly confused by this, but is also kind of a bigot. Vocal range – F5 – A3

YOUNGER BROTHER a young man in search of his reason for living. Vocal Range – F5-B3

HARRY HOUDINI The most famous escape artist of his day.  Originally an immigrant. Vocal range – G5 – C4 Anyone who is auditioning for this part should be prepared to learn sleight of hand/magic tricks.

EMMA GOLDMAN Russian born radical anarchist who fought strongly and loudly for equality for all. Vocal range – D5 to B3

EVELYN NESBIT the original Gibson girl, the Kim Kardashian of 1906. Vocal range – D5 – B3

HENRY FORD American industrialist who made his wealth with the use of the Assembly Line. Vocal range – F5 – D4

JP MORGAN Financier whose influence continues to be felt to this day. Vocal range – F5 – D4

WILLIE CONKLIN chief of the all Irish volunteer Fire Brigade.  His racism precipitates the crisis in the community.  Vocal range – F5 – D4

GRANDFATHER Mother’s father. A retired professor, irritated by everything.

REHEARSALS 
Rehearsals will primarily be held at 601 Harrington Road, Rockville MD 20850. Rehearsals are generally Sunday afternoons 4:30-8:30pm and weeknight evenings from 6:30-9:30pm. Some rehearsals will be held at neighboring locations and will be made clear once the full rehearsal schedule breakdown is sent out to the cast.

CONFLICTS
Each cast member will be allowed a total of four conflicts. 

OVATIONS THEATRE reserves the right to change the theater venue or cancel the production before rehearsals begin for any reason, returning the audition fees.  Full payment of the tuition by all cast members will be due at the first rehearsal. There are no refunds.
