The following Committees are in need of a chairperson to lead the effort and an apprentice to back up the Lead and "learn the ropes" with the potential for leading the effort in the future should the Lead be unable to continue. (Our kids all do graduate at some point!)
It takes a village to give our children the wonderful services and extra-curricular experiences we have been able to provide for them for the last 30 years. Leading a committee does not mean you have to do this alone. Together we should be able to build up teams of people who can break up the work into small enough pieces such that no one is stressed, overburdened, burned out, or sucked into some black hole of volunteering.
Yes, we hope that Leads can continue for many years in a row and we are asking Apprentices to consider sticking around for future years too, because the lack of a learning curve makes subsequent years easier for everyone. But we also understand when life changes. We have walked in those same shoes. We have raised toddlers and teenagers and kids with special needs; we are single parents and have spouses who frequently travel for work; we have started new jobs after staying at home for 6 years; we have ailing parents near and far away. We are a lot like you! :) We need and will appreciate your help in whatever way you can give it. And the more the merrier and the lighter the load! And if ever there was a non-stereo-typical PTSA, this is it! We are pretty laid back and end up having a lot of fun together.
Please be open enough to talk to us and ask questions. Then talk to your friends and try teaming up on something. Even if it's only for a little while, we think you'll get even more out of it than you put in.
And you're your ready to volunteer, just make sure your volunteer application (good for 2 years) is approved and on file with LWSD and then select whatever positions interest you.
With sincere gratitude,
Your Friendly Volunteer Coordinator (and working mom of two Smith Students),
