STRETCH YOUR SELF - STRETCH YOUR HEART - STRETCH YOUR FAITH
Summer stretch days bring youth together to serve and have fun. This summer our focus is on God’s creation. Summer Stretch is cosponsored by: First English, Spring Garden, St. Ansgar’s, and Urland Lutheran churches. You may invite friends to participate.
Who: Youth completing 5-11th grades.
When: Wednesdays June 9, 30; July 7, 28
Time: 10 a.m.-3:00 p.m. (hours may vary)
Fee: There is a fee for Wednesday, July 7 (Fee, $15), the other dates do not have a fee.
Registration: Youth must preregister, and adults must provide a cell phone contact for that day.
Deadline: The registration deadline is the Friday before each event, June 4, 25; July 2, & 23.
Where: Meet and pick up your youth at the site designated.
Dates and Activities:
- Wednesday, June 9, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Forest - We will learn about and work in the Environmental Learning Area currently being developed behind the Cannon Falls High School. Wear long pants, long sleeves, and close-toed shoes. Also bring work gloves, work gloves are a must! We will remove buckthorn and do other work on the forest. Drop off and pick up youth at CFHS by the tennis courts. Lunch and water are provided.
- Wednesday, June 28, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Body – We will bike from Hannah's Bend to the lake, play some games, enjoy lunch, and return to Hannah's Bend. Bring your own bike with the tires pumped up and in good repair, your riding helmet, and a water bottle. At the start we will have a blessing of the bikes, and hear from a health expert on the importance of fitness and healthy living. No charge for this event. Drop off and pick up youth at Hannah’s Bend Park. Lunch is provided. Bring a water bottle.
- Wednesday, July 7, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. (Fee TBD, will not exceed $15)
Meet at Welch Mill and take time to eat your sack lunch. Then spend the middle of the day tubing down the Cannon River. When we are done we will learn about caring for our natural water resources from a special guest (Sewer Man). Wear swimsuit and water shoes, bring a lunch, and water bottle. Drop off and pick up is at Welch Mill.
- Wednesday, July 30, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Community - Cannon Falls area churches have supported the local Food Shelf for over 40 years. Why is this ministry needed? We will be inside First English and walk back and forth to the grocery store. Lunch is provided. Bring a water bottle. We will go to the Cannon Falls pool in the afternoon. Pick up at the pool. Wear walking shoes, bring your swimsuit and towel, water bottle, and swim fee. Pickup at pool at 3:00 p.m. Vaccinated drivers will shuttle youth to the pool.
Youth sign for each date they plan to attend.
Drop-off and pick-up your youth at the event site, unless otherwise indicated.
- Bring a water bottle and other items listed per specific events. Sample day:
10:00 a.m. – Youth arrive at service site.
10:00-10:05 a.m.– Check-in with adult leaders.
10:05 a.m. – Service site activities (includes devotion, games, service activity, and a short presentation on the day’s topic).
12:00 p.m. – Lunch – provided except for July 7. Youth need to bring a sack lunch on that date.
12:30-3:00 p.m. – Additional service activity or recreation. (Note, times may vary on June 28 and July 7, be sure to read email, sent the day before (Tuesday).
3:00 p.m. or TBD – Parent pick up and head home.
We may need parent leaders to assist with supervision on-site. Our ratio of youth to adult will be 1:8. The only day we will transport is July 30 and vaccinated drivers will drive, youth will be asked to wear a mask in the vehicle. Permission to Participate: As a parent/guardian, I have the legal authority to provide my consent and authorization for matters relating to the participation of in the Summer Stretch Program as registered online through Sign-Up Genius. I have read and understand this information and my online registration indicates my permission.
