Strafford County Extreme Cold Weather Shelter
This is the Working Staff Roster for the Weds Jan 30th to Sunday Feb 3rd Strafford County Emergency Weather Shelter event at 276 County Farm Road in Dover, NH.
Please ONLY select a shift when you are confident you can make that shift.
Our current shelter population primarily includes clients who are homeless or housing insecure. We are functioning as a low-barrier shelter, which means we do not require sobriety, although on-site substance use and indoor smoking are prohibited.
Staffing Goals for each shift (may be scaled up depending on census beyond ~ 20 clients)
- Skilled shelter staff (may be paid, from SOS/TriCity/etc)
- General Shelter staff (volunteer known to Sheltering team from MRC/CERT/faith-based/community)
- Shelter LEAD/Mgr (may be a skilled or general shelter staff member or separate role)
Skilled Staff include those staff or volunteers from area partner agencies who have 'skilled' designation agreements with the Region 6 IDN or who have served in previous IDN shelters as Skilled Staff. (If you are unsure of your designation, please contact Tory Jennison @ [email protected]). Skilled staff include people with direct service experience in the health care, peer recovery, or homeless community and require status confirmation from the Region 6 IDN prior to staffing. Duties include general milieu management, conflict assessment and de-escalation when indicated, and overall strong supportive engagement with the the clients in shelter.
General Shelter Staff duties include general shelter support activities (assisting with arrival, meal set-up and clean-up, light cleaning and maintenance of a safe, clean space, managing bathroom and laundry schedules, and respectfully and kindly engaging with clients in welcoming and accepting conversation).
An orientation to the shelter space, shelter operations, and expectations for staff and clients will be provided by a member of the Shelter Lead team at the beginning of each shift. A minimum of two staff will be scheduled for each 4 hour shift with a back-up/on-call person identified whenever possible. Please contact Tory Jennison at [email protected] or 603-312-0492 with questions.
