2019-2020 Parents Council Volunteer Opportunities

 

There are countless ways you can become involved with activities at Burroughs...and we need your help! Volunteering on one or more Parents Council committees is a great way to meet parents and other members of the JBS community. 

With just a few clicks, you can review the options and sign up for 2019-20.

If there is anything specifically you would like us to know, please note that in the comments section.  For instance...

  • Any particular subcommittees you want to join 
  • Days or times (including evenings and weekends) that you prefer
  • Special areas of interest or expertise (accounting skills, ability to work   in Excel, public relations experience, graphic design skills)
  • Interest in helping with e-mails, phone calls, etc.

Parents Council Committees

Annual Dinner and Auction

Held in May, this evening brings together the JBS community for a ‘low-key’ silent auction and dinner with the emphasis on fun vs. fundraising. The committee chooses a theme, acquires donations, plans the menu, organizes volunteers and more.

Bookstore

Volunteers sell books and supplies to students and faculty in the bookstore. Each volunteer works one 2 1/2-hour shift per month. Volunteering in the bookstore provides a great way to meet the kids. Sign up here and a committee member will contact you.

Family Network - Book Clubs

JBS has two book clubs that meet throughout the school year: The Faculty-Led Book Club and The Parenting Book Club. Sign up here for more information!

Hospitality

Working with Grade Chairs and parents, this committee provides food and decorations for monthly faculty/staff appreciation events. In the spring, the committee organizes an end of year luncheon for the Parents Council.

Library

Volunteers assist the library staff in a wide variety of jobs, including processing books, shelving books/magazines, computer input, and barcoding. Also help with laptop check out at the library front desk. Training will be provided in September.

Lost and Found

This committee organizes the Lost & Found Room and helps students reclaim lost books, supplies, and clothing. Volunteers work from 7:45 to 8:30 am (although timing is flexible) on their assigned mornings.

Potpourri - 500 Family Garage Sale

This public sale is held in late April. Volunteers sort donations (clothing, electronics, decor, etc.) throughout the year. During the week leading up to the sale, volunteers oversee a specialty restaurant, bake sale, raffles, community sale and more.

Blue and Gold Dance

Committee members work with students to organize the Blue & Gold Dance, which is held in the fall for students in grades 10-12.

The Producers

Committee members create interest in and provide assistance for the performing, visual and practical arts at Burroughs. Volunteers assist with building sets, publicity, concessions and more.

Unique Boutique

Held the weekend before Thanksgiving, this event features gifts, plants and art. Volunteers manage vendors, marketing/PR and event set-up. During the event, volunteers help with JBS sales including café, plants, home baked goods and handmade gift items.
