Hi Schalm Families!
Your child is invited to attend our upcoming Holiday Gift Shop on Monday December 3rd and Tuesday December 4th. This is time for them to purchase special gifts and we can't pull it off without your help.
We are excited about the program as a learning experience as well as a service to the students and parents. On the big shopping day our students will learn decision-making, budgets, and handling money -- with your help of course.
I have loved escorting shoppers around the tables helping them through the experience. It’s a great time to hear why they are picking this or that. This is a big deal for them.
Every student needs a Shopkeeper to walk with them, guide their decisions, keep them on budget and hopefully find something for everyone on their list. You will have a bag to carry their purchases, a clipboard and tally sheet to help make the final sale. Having your phone calculator is helpful but all prices include tax and are rounded to the nearest quarter so nothing too intense. When all the shopping is done you bring the student to the cashier and let them know how much the student owes.
After shopping our students proceed to the wrapping station where most of the presents are sealed in shiny bags to prevent peeking. Particularly for our younger students, help is needed to keep things somewhat organized and labeled.
And of course I can't forget set up on the previous Friday after school and pack up Tuesday night.
To enter the school and work with the students you need to have completed your volunteer form in the office. It needs to be completed annually so head to the office if you haven’t already.
