WHY Parenting with Faith Part 2?
Last month at our Parenting with Faith meeting, we discussed research results published in a book written by Jean Twenge, Phd, iGen: Why Today's Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy--and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood--and What That Means for the Rest of Us. We also watched her short TED Talk summarizing her research (CLICK HERE to view). A few elements stood out to us; iGen kids born from 1995-2012, are more connected than any other generation before them in the same age group, yet, are feeling more isolated, alone, with higher rates of mental health issues including a 50% rise in suicide rates since 2007.
What can you do to help equip your kids, grand-kids, nieces & nephews - the next generation, to better equip them and us for what lies ahead?
Scott Stoner, creator of Parent Samaritan Family Wellness, will be sharing some important insights, tools and ways we can practically and simply make positive changes for more meaningful connections. He will be sharing Parent Wellness Compass, (click here for more information) which invites parents to gather with the intent of sharing the joys and challenges of parenting, to discuss what wellness and greater wholeness can look like in their lives and their families. All adult family and extended family memebrs are encouraged to attend. "It talks a village to raise a child."
Rev. Dr. Scott Stoner, LMFT, has been a family therapist in 1985, first in the Chicago area and then in Milwaukee. His focus is working with individuals, couples, men, and families. He is the co-director, with his wife, Holly Hughes Stoner, of the Samaritan Family Wellness Foundation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The foundation’s focus is creating preventative wellness materials for adults, families, and teens. He is also the creator of the national Living Compass Wellness Initiative. Scott lives in Shorewood, Wisconsin, with Holly, and also has three grown children and two grandsons.
