In these rapidly changing times, more people are without housing due to COVID-19 impacts, job layoffs, evictions, and other pre-COVID challenges. Unhoused people are finding it difficult to locate accessible housing and shelter options. To meet this growing need, Denver's nonprofit service organizations are looking to offer a full spectrum of housing and sheltering options in neighborhoods across the city.
In December, the Colorado Village Collaborative, and partners launched Denver’s first two Safe Outdoor Spaces. These sites have successfully operated in Capitol Hill for the last 6 months, and is now launching a 60-person Safe Outdoor Space in a parking lot on the easter edgeof the Regis University campus at 50thh and Federal Blvd.
These Safe Outdoor Spaces are healthy, secure, staffed, resource and service-rich environments that provide an outdoor, individualized sheltering option for people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Denver.
View the VIRTUAL COMMUNITY INFORMATION MEETING as a wonderful way to understand this ministry, the organizations involved, and the thoughtful planning that is in place to make this a successful and safe opportunity for all. Recording available on YouTube You can also check out the website to learn more aout this outreach: https://www.coloradovillagecollaborative.org/safe-outdoor-space-regis.
