Shavuot commemorates both agricultural themes of gratitude for the bounty of the harvest, and spiritual themes of gratitude for the receiving of the Torah. We will gather to celebrate this important holiday with a fun and all age friendly learning activity that brings the themes of the holiday to life, including a Torah reading of the Ten Commandments, and followed by a dairy/vegetarian potluck (since it’s both a harvest holiday, and dairy foods are traditional). An adult learning session on themes of the holiday will be offered for those who would like to stay after lunch.
We ask all to bring their own plates, cups (silverware will be provided), and cloth napkins if you have them, so that we minimize the use of paper and plastic.
Dairy is traditional for Shavuot - so bring on the bagels with cream cheese, cheese blintzes, or your favorite mac n'cheese or broccoli cheese quiche! It's also a harvest holiday, so salads and all that grows from the earth's abundance are also great to bring. And Shavuot is not complete without cheesecake or ice cream for dessert!
Please bring a dish that serves 10-15 people, and write the name of your dish and ingredients to display, so that anyone who keeps kosher, or has food allergies, will know what is in them.
THANK YOU! LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THERE!
